Receiving the Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master or your District Deputy Grand Master
on an official visit follows a certain procedure. They are contained below.
RECEIVING THE MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND MASTER (or DEPUTY GRAND MASTER)
 
The Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master), being outside the closed doors of the Lodge room, will inform the Tiler that he is present and demands admittance.
 
The Tiler alarms the Lodge in the usual manner.
 
The Junior Deacon, on instructions from the Worshipful Master, attends to the cause of the alarm. At this time, he is informed by the Tiler that Most Worshipful Brother ____________ Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) of Masons in South Carolina is present with his party and demands admission.
 
The Junior Deacon leaves the door open and repeats to the Worshipful Master the information he received from the Tiler.
 
The Worshipful Master instructs the Senior and Junior Deacons to admit the Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) and to escort him to the Altar.
 
The Senior Deacon goes to the door and says: Most (Right) Worshipful sir: it is the pleasure of the Worshipful Master that you be admitted and escorted to the Altar.  At this time the Worshipful Master calls up the Lodge and removes his hat.
 
The Senior Deacon then changes his Staff to his left hand and keeping the Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) on his right, he escorts him to the West side of the Altar, facing the East. The Junior Deacon accompanies them on the right side of the Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master).
 
The Senior Deacon says: Worshipful Master I have the pleasure of presenting to you and through you to the Brethren, Most (Right) Worshipful Brother ________________, Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) of Masons in South Carolina.
 
The Worshipful Master directs the Senior Deacon and Junior Deacon to escort the Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) to the East.
 
Arriving at the East, the Worshipful Master presents his right hand and offers words of welcome.
 
The Worshipful Master then says: Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master), behold your Brethren, Brethren, behold your Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) and join me in giving him Grand Honors.
 
Deacons return to their places when Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master); who has been presented the gavel, raps down the Lodge. The Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) offers his remarks and returns the gavel to the Worshipful Master as may be desired, who replaces his hat and offers the Grand Master (Deputy Grand Master) a seat in the East.
RECEIVING THE DISTRICT DEPUTY GRAND MASTER
 
The District Deputy Grand Master being outside the closed doors of the Lodge will inform the Tiler that he is present for an official visit and desires admittance.
 
The Tiler alarms the Lodge in the usual manner.
 
The Junior Deacon, on instructions from the Worshipful Master attends to the cause of the alarm. At this time, he is informed by the Tiler that Right Worshipful Brother ___________ District Deputy Grand Master of the ______ Masonic District, is present for an official visit and desires admittance.
 
The Junior Deacon closes the door and repeats to the Worshipful Master the information he received from the Tiler.
 
The Worshipful Master instructs the Senior Deacon to admit the District Deputy Grand Master and to escort him to the Altar for introduction.
 
The Senior Deacon opens the door and says: Right Worshipful Sir: It is the pleasure of the Worshipful Master that you be admitted and escorted to the Altar. The Worshipful Master calls up the Lodge.
 
The Senior Deacon then changes his staff to his left hand and, keeping the District Deputy Grand Master on his right, escorts him to the West side of the Altar, facing the East.
 
The Senior Deacon says: Worshipful Master I have the pleasure of presenting to you and through you to the Brethren, Right Worshipful Brother _______________ District Deputy Grand Master, of the _____ Masonic District, who is here for an official visit.
 
The Worshipful Master directs the Senior Deacon to escort the District Deputy Grand Master to the East.
 
Arriving at the East, the Worshipful Master presents his right hand and offers words of welcome.
 
The Worshipful Master then says: District Deputy Grand Master, behold your Brethren; Brethren behold your District Deputy Grand Master and join me in giving him a hearty welcome, with clapping of the hands if desired. NO GRAND HONORS ARE GIVEN.
 
Everyone remains standing until seated. The Worshipful Master then says: Right Worshipful Sir I present to you the gavel and invite you to preside. The Worshipful Master then removes his hat.
 
The District Deputy Grand Master seats the lodge, offers his remarks and returns the gavel to the Worshipful Master, who replaces his hat and offers the District Deputy Grand Master a seat in the East.
